Best Albums of 2009

Okay, here is my list of the best new rock albums of the year. Had to leave off some real good stuff, but these ten are hard to beat.

1. The Riverdales "Invasion USA" My #1 pick. Great Ramones inspired punk about Dinosaurs, Secret Agents, Monsters and more. Super sound too. Play it loud!!!
2. Tinted Windows "S/T" An odd super-group. Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne), James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick) and Taylor Hanson on vocals (you know, from the Hansons). It really works!
3. The Bishops "For Now" An import from England but well worth the money. Something about this band really caught my ear. Check them out on iTunes.
4. Broadfield Marchers "Displayed In Reflections" Cool, slightly psychedelic pop band. If you like this get "Inevitable Continuing" too. Reminds me a bit of the old power pop band Shoes.
5. Pains Of Being Pure At Heart "S/T" Super new band that I love. Every song on this is a gem.
6. Marked Men "Ghosts" One of my favorite bands release one of their best albums.
7. Jay Reatard "Watch Me Fall" This guy keeps cranking out great songs. I love the 70's style punk influences, especially The Adverts.
8. Howling Bells "Radio Wars" Lovely vocals and great melodies. Real mood music.
9. Teenage Bottlerocket "They Came From The Shadows" Teenage Bottlerocket, Kepi Ghoulie and The Riverdales have made this a very good year for pop-punk.
10. Raveonettes "In And Out Of Control" '60's girl group sounds mixed with a little Jesus And Mary Chain feedback. This formula keeps working for them.
